Customer Service
Every time you answer the phone, you determine what message you’re going to send to the person on the other end of the line. Your decision is marketing: you’re shaping the way the customer experiences your company.

Your interaction with that customer is one of the many experiences that creates a lasting impression, and more often than not, is shared with someone else they know. The way you respond to complaints if your service goes offline is marketing. If you say, “I’m sorry, but that’s not our policy,” you’ve just sent a very powerful marketing message.

Product
Your product is probably the ultimate marketing message. Think price. Plain and simple, the way an item is priced is marketing. A person perceives different things about a cheap, plastic bottle of gin than an expensive glass bottle with an ornately designed label - even if they contain the exact same liquid inside.

How is your product delivered? Where is it presented? What’s the experience like? Was it easy to use? What extras did you offer? What does your product say about your company? The answers to the questions determines what the market will say about you, and what your customers will tell their friends.

Human Resources
When you develope a work environment where you value employees, cater their job description to their strengths and listen to them when they voice a concern, you are marketing. You’re telling your employees something about your business, and about what you value. You’re saying something about your services. You are marketing.

If you fail to keep your employees’ equipment up to date or neglect to provide them with the tools they need to do their job well, you are marketing. Do you think the outside world won't hear about how you treat the people closest to you? Do you think your employees don’t market you to future employment candidates, based on how you treat them? Every HR decision you make is marketing.

Every day your business is in operation, you’re teaching the market how to treat you. Make intelligent decisions, because whether you realize it or not, you are marketing your business every day.
